The Fiber Arts Network of Michigan (FAN) is a group of people interested in the fiber arts in its multitude of forms: baskets, beads, clothing, dolls, felting, hand-dyeing, knitting/crochet, paper, quilting, spinning, stitchery, surface design, weaving and 3D mixed media.
FAN sponsors a biennial juried exhibition of contemporary fiber art. The third biennial exhibit New Fibers 2008 opens at the University Art Gallery of Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, and will travel to the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center in Escanaba, Michigan. Participation is open to all artists 18 years and older, living in the United States.
FAN publishes a quarterly newsletter to facilitate communication among fiber arts people and groups. It includes information about exhibits, speakers, and workshops in the area and lists exhibition opportunities that the membership might be interested in.
FAN facilitates networking among fiber art supporters and artists by sponsoring an annual members luncheon with a speaker in the fall. Past speakers have included Arturo Sandoval, Joan Livingstone, and Susie Brandt. The 2007 Annual Members Luncheon is scheduled for November 10, 2007 in Ann Arbor - Mark Newport is scheduled to speak.
